Eurotech unveils ZYPAD

Eurotech has oficially unveiled yesterday ZYPAD, the wrist-worn pc with integrated GPS that we have talked about in a previous post. This new device weight 290 grams and is worn at the wrist. The idea behind this unique GPS enabled PC is to leave the hands free according to Roberto Siagri, Eurotech’s president. Eurotech also claims that they have managed to deal with power consumption very efficiantly by using an accelerometer that will detect when the user’s arm hangs down beside the body and placing the device in standby mode.
Some of the main features of the first ZYPAD that will be released the Zypad™ WL 1000 are:

  • Operating System: Windows CE 5.0 or Linux based on Kernel 2.6
  • Processor: AMD Au1100 400MHz 32 bit MIPS
  • Display: 3.5″ TFT touchscreen with automatic contrast adjustment via ambient light sensor
  • Memory:
    RAM – 64 MB non-volatile Flash
    ROM - 64 MB non-volatile Flash
    Expansion slot (Mini SD)
  • Wireless: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g
  • USB: 1x USB1.1 Master Port, 1x USB1.1 Device Port
  • GPS: Integrated L1 band 12-channel GPS receiver and helix antenna
  • Audio: 2.5″ stereo audio jack and speaker
  • Keyboard: 11 Backlit tactile response keys
