After the Mio A701, the Taiwanese company Mio is preparing another GPS-enabled Pocket PC Phone, the Mio A501. Designwise the A501 is quite different from the A701 and to be honest I prefer this new design. A501 according to the reports will be using the (surprise, surprise) SiRFstar III GPS chip. Other features and specifications include Edge GPRS (no 3G), 2.7″ QVGA screen, 64/128 RAM/ROM capacity, quad-band GSM, Bluetooth 2.0 and 2MP digital camera. Finally, it is (or will be) powered by a 201MHz TI OMAP 850 processor and it will be running Windows Mobile 5.

It is expected to hit the stores sometime this March with a unknown as of yet price tag.

Pocket-lint posted a review of the Mio H610. Although the H610 has been around for a while, it received quite a bit of press attention at the CES and in my opinion it deserves it. It is an elegant portable GPS Navigation unit that uses the SiRFStar III chipset, is powered by the Samsung S3C2440 (400 Mhz) CPU processor and has PMP functions as well. The verdict of pocket-lint’s review is quite positive giving it a score of 8 out of 10. With a press release today Mio announced that it will be showcasing at it’s CES booth a new GPS device the Mio DigiWalker C520. According to the press release it will have a widescreen 4.3″ screen and Bluetooth support. Another interesting feature is the split-screen display, which will allow for address lookup or route information while the map is visible. I also expect it to have rich multimedia features since the call it “widescreen portable navigation and entertainment device”
The C520 is expected to become available in the first half of 2007. No information on pricing yet.
Now the people attending the CES go get some pictures and more information (North Hallbooth #6330)

The Mio C210 that you can see in the image above is will be using the SiRFStar III GPS receiver. Its form factor looks a lot like the TomTom GPS receivers and Sony’s latest NV-U series. The C210 will come preloaded with European maps from Teleatlas and will be using Windows CE .Net 4.2.

The Mio H610(pictured above), besides it’s navigation capabilities is reported to also have multimedia features. According to the report it will be able to playback both movies and music. Like the C210 it will use the SiRFStar III GPS receiver and Windows CE .Net 4.2. It will come preloaded with maps of 25 European countries and tourist guides. Finally it is said to have an impressive battery life of 17 hours.

There are no reports yet about the hardware specifications of these two devices.

It looks like Mio is trying hard to become one of the major players in the GPS market in the years to come.
